Last summer, Jeff and I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Gretna Days Car Show in Gretna, Nebraska, and let me tell you—it was a scorcher of a day in more ways than one! The sun was blazing down, the heat was relentless, but the incredible lineup of classic cars and the warm, welcoming vibe of the people made it all worth it. This annual event, held during the fantastic Gretna Days weekend, is a must-visit for any car enthusiast.
The Gretna Days Car Show is a highlight of the weekend-long celebration, drawing gearheads and casual admirers alike to marvel at automotive history. Walking through the rows of gleaming metal, we couldn’t help but feel like we’d stepped into a time machine. One standout was a 1969 Chevy Camaro RS—a lowered beast of a machine that growled with attitude. Its sleek lines and bold presence were enough to make anyone stop and stare. Then there was the 1970 AMC Javelin, a rare beauty with its distinctive style that you don’t see every day. The 1960 Chevy Brookwood Wagon caught our eye too, a perfect blend of vintage charm and family-friendly nostalgia. And let’s not forget the 1957 Ford Thunderbird—its iconic fins and classic curves were a reminder of when cars were as much art as they were transportation.

The heat was no joke, though. We were sweating buckets by mid-morning, but the good folks of Gretna kept the energy high. Everyone was friendly, swapping stories about their rides, sharing tips, and just soaking in the communal love for all things automotive. It’s that kind of Midwestern hospitality that makes events like this so special. You’re not just looking at cars—you’re connecting with people who live and breathe this passion.

What we love most about Gretna Days is how it’s more than just a car show—it’s a whole weekend of fun, with the car show as the cherry on top. Whether you’re there for the food, the festivities, or the chance to see some of the coolest vehicles around, it’s an experience that leaves you grinning ear to ear. If you’re a car enthusiast within driving distance (or even if you’re not!), mark your calendar for next year’s Gretna Days. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it.

Until next time, keep the engines roaring and the chrome shining!
