Last summer, Jeff and I decided to take a quick jaunt across the river to Council Bluffs for the 2024 All Ford Car Show at McMullen Ford. Living in Omaha means we’re always on the lookout for a good car event within striking distance, and this one—barely 15 minutes from home—was too tempting to pass up. It was worth every second of the drive.
We hopped in the car on a sunny Saturday morning, the kind of day where the sky’s so blue it practically begs for a road trip, even a short one. McMullen Ford sits right off South Expressway, and as we pulled in, the lot was already alive with the growl of engines and the glint of polished chrome. The All Ford Car Show was in full swing, and it was clear this wasn’t just any dealership event—it was a Ford fanatic’s paradise.
The setup was impressive. Rows of Fords stretched across the lot, everything from vintage beauties to the latest beasts off the line. They’d organized it so you could walk through Ford’s history, starting with the classics—think ’50s Thunderbirds with those swoopy tailfins and a ’65 Mustang that had Jeff drooling before we even parked. I swear he whispered “289 V8” under his breath like it was a sacred chant.
It was hot—oh man, was it hot. July in Iowa doesn’t mess around, and the sun was turning the blacktop into a griddle. We were sweating through our shirts within 20 minutes, but that’s car show life for you. You don’t bail just because your shoes are sticking to the pavement. We grabbed some waters from a vendor and kept going, dodging kids with snow cones and nodding at old-timers who looked like they’d been wrenching on Fords since Henry himself was around.
The crowd was a mix of Omaha and Council Bluffs locals, plus a few diehards who’d clearly trailed in from farther out.
By the time we wrapped up, the heat had us beat. The ride back to Omaha was quick, but we spent it plotting which Ford we’d snag if money grew on trees. McMullen Ford’s All Ford Car Show was a total win—close enough to home, packed with enough eye candy to keep us talking, and proof that Council Bluffs knows how to throw down for car folks. Next summer, we’re already planning to drag a few more Omaha buddies along. Who knows, maybe we’ll even convince Jeff to finally get that Mustang.
