Last summer, Jeff and I packed up our enthusiasm for classic cars and hit the road for Ponca, Nebraska, to attend the Frog Days Car Show. It’s one of those small-town events that feels like a hidden gem—full of charm, community spirit, and, of course, an incredible lineup of vintage rides. The sun was shining, the air was buzzing with the rumble of engines, and we couldn’t wait to dive into a day of automotive eye candy.
Ponca welcomed us with open arms and a sea of gleaming chrome. The show was a celebration of everything from muscle cars to hot rods, and it didn’t take long for us to realize we were in for a treat. One of the first cars that caught our eye was a stunning 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS in a deep, mesmerizing blue (you can check it out at the 00:20 mark in our YouTube video). The curves, the shine, the sheer power radiating from that V8—it was like stepping back into the golden age of American muscle. Jeff and I spent a good while circling it, snapping photos, and debating whether we’d ever be cool enough to own something that iconic.
The variety at Frog Days was jaw-dropping. From lowriders to convertibles, every corner of the lot had something to gawk at. Another standout for us was the 1970 Dodge Challenger RT in Plum Crazy Purple (catch it at 20:24 in the video). That color alone was enough to stop us in our tracks—bold, unapologetic, and perfectly paired with the car’s aggressive stance. We overheard a few attendees swapping stories about their own Dodge adventures, and it added to that sense of camaraderie that makes car shows so special.
Beyond the cars, the vibe in Ponca was pure summer nostalgia. Kids darted around with ice cream-stained grins, classic rock tunes floated through the air, and the smell of grilled burgers mingled with the faint scent of gasoline. Jeff and I grabbed some food from a local vendor and found a shady spot to sit, soaking it all in. It wasn’t just about the cars—it was about the people who love them, the stories behind each vehicle, and the way a small town like Ponca can turn a car show into a full-blown celebration.
We lost track of time wandering the rows, chatting with proud owners, and dreaming up our own garage wish lists. By the time the sun started dipping low, our camera roll was overflowing, and our legs were begging for a break. Frog Days was everything we’d hoped for and more—a perfect blend of horsepower and heart. If you’re a car enthusiast or just love a good summer outing, put this one on your calendar for next year. Jeff and I are already counting down the days.
